The Electric Return
2010, cables in walls, wall sockets and light switches, glass
3 rooms of a former shop
LoBe, Berlin
All cables of a former shop are chiseled out of the wall. The cables are cut to reveal their inner structure and the exposed, conducting sections are displayed behind glass. Four generations and six different kinds of cables could be identified.
The revealed cables, which seem like random wall drawings, were originally installed by different electricians in
different times. The craftsmen would have crossed former cable courses with their new paths, cut old cables, pulled parts
of them out and left other parts behind in the walls. The entirely revealed lines of cables seem like space-overlapping walldrawings, but none of the electrician had installed his work with the knowledge of the already existing structures.
